2) What we collect

We collect information in three ways:
(a) you provide it, (b) it’s generated while you use the Service, and (c) from third parties you connect.

a) Information you provide

• Account & profile: name, email, password (hashed), handle, role, time zone, photo (optional).

• Learning data: prompts, questions, Byte Courses you create or take, assessments, certifications, resume/profile details you choose to store or share.

• Support & feedback: messages, survey responses, bug reports.

• Referrals/newsletters: email addresses you submit, referral counts, marketing preferences.

b) Information we generate/collect automatically

• Usage & device data: IP address, device/browser info, pages viewed, product telemetry (clicks, features used), approximate location (city/country), timestamps.

• Session data: screen/window share streams (only when enabled). We do not record or store screen content unless you explicitly opt in (e.g., save a session clip).

• AI content: artifacts (docs, slides, images, code snippets, mini-apps) and metadata (time, course, outcome).

c) From third parties (when connected by you)

• Single Sign-On/social: name, email, avatar from Google, GitHub, etc.

• Payments: limited billing info (we do not store full card details).

• Community & comms: Discord/Slack handles if you join; email platform data (opens/clicks).

• Credential sharing: if you connect LinkedIn to share certificates, we receive only what’s needed for posting.

3) How we use your information

• Provide & secure the Service: authentication, feature operations, troubleshooting, abuse prevention.

• Personalize learning: recommend Byte Courses, tailor guidance, remember progress.

• Improve the product: analytics, research, quality assurance (may review anonymized/aggregated prompts to improve UX).

• Communicate with you: account notices, product updates, tips, marketing (opt-out available anytime).

• Compliance: enforce terms, meet legal obligations.

4) Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

We process your data under:

• Contract (to deliver the Service)

• Legitimate interests (product improvement, security, fraud prevention)

• Consent (cookies/marketing, screen-record opt-ins)

• Legal obligation (tax, regulatory requests)

5) How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share only with:

• Service providers/processors: hosting, storage, databases, analytics, email/newsletters, payments, support, error monitoring.

• AI infrastructure providers: model vendors that process your prompts (under data-processing agreements).

• Community tools: Discord/Slack (if you join).

• Integrations: e.g., LinkedIn (for posting certificates).

• Legal/corporate events: mergers, acquisitions, or as required by law to protect rights/safety.

All recipients follow strict confidentiality, security, and data-processing obligations.

6) International transfers

Your information may be processed outside your country.
We use Standard Contractual Clauses and other safeguards where required.

7) Data retention

We keep data only as long as necessary to:
provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements.
You may request deletion (see “Your rights”).

8) Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
access, correct, delete, restrict, object, or export your data.

• Marketing opt-out: use unsubscribe links or email us.

• Cookies: manage via our cookie banner or browser settings.

• Do Not Track: we respect “Global Privacy Control” where legally required.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA): right to know, delete, and limit use of sensitive personal information.

9) Children’s privacy

The Service is not for children under 13 (or your jurisdiction’s minimum age).
We do not knowingly collect their data. Contact us to delete any such data.

10) Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including:
encryption in transit, least-privilege access, MFA/2FA for staff, logging/monitoring.

No system is 100% secure — please use a strong password.

11) AI-specific guidance

• Prompts & content: Do not include sensitive data unless necessary and lawful.

• Screen sharing: Share only what you intend; close unrelated apps/docs.

• Model improvement: We may use anonymized data to improve AI.
  We do not train third-party foundation models on your content unless you consent.

12) Cookies & tracking

We use:

• Strictly necessary cookies: for security/session.

• Analytics: to understand usage and improve product.

• Marketing: only with your consent (where required).
